So, what is the root cause of HPV warts and how are the different from regular warts? First off, HPV warts and regular warts are one and the same. They are caused by different strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are actually ten different types of warts, including:

•     The common wart or Verruca vulgaris, which is really a roughened patch of skin that's thick enough to look raised. Although they are commonly found on the hands, they can grown anywhere.
•     Flat wart or Verruca plana, which commonly grows on the face, neck, hands, wrists and knees. These warts appear as small, smooth, flesh-colored flattened warts. They can break out in large numbers.
•     Genital wart (venereal wart, Condyloma acuminatum, Verruca acuminata), a wart that occurs on the genitalia.
•     Filiform or digitate wart, a thread- or finger-like wart, most common on the face, especially near the eyelids and lips.
•     Mosaic wart, a group of tightly clustered plantar-type warts, commonly on the hands or soles of the feet.
•     Periungual wart, a cauliflower-like cluster of warts that occurs around the nails.
•     Plantar wart (verruca, Verruca plantaris), a hard sometimes painful lump, often with multiple black specks in the center; usually only found on pressure points on the soles of the feet.

There are many home remedies for HPV warts, however, before you check out which home remedies to choose, you should carefully examine what type of warts you have before using any home remedies.

As it is, the most common among the home remedies for warts is salicylic acid. It is cheap and it's actually what dermatologists use to remove warts, although the one being used by doctors is stronger than the ones sold over-the-counter. You can remove a wart with salicylic acid by cleaning the area, applying the acid, and removing the dead skin with a pumice stone or emery board. It may take several months up to a year to remove a wart. Right now, salicylic acid is the only known home remedies for HPV warts that are proven to work.

Although there are other remedies like imiquimod (topical cream), cantharidin, bleomycin, dinitrochlorobenzene or DNCB (topical solution like salicylic acids) and fluorouracil, another topical solution. However, some of these remedies are not approved by the Food and Drug administration.

There's one other popular solution but it's painful and it's NOT proven to work: duct tape.

It would seem that salicylic acid is right now your only option if you want to use home remedies for HPV warts. Again, it's something that you can buy over-the-counter. However, and this is the big caveat (and this something we mentioned earlier), it normally takes three months continuous to see any visible effects.

Keep in mind that salicylic acid merely treats the symptoms of HPV infection: warts. If you want to heal your warts, you need to work on expelling the HPV from your system. If you're a normal healthy person, you can expect your infection to away after one year. If this doesn't happen, however, you should boost your immune system.
